About The Black Fork Review
We are thrilled by the inspired, the unexpected, and the fearless.
Launched in 2019, BFR is run by students and alumni from Ashland University. We do all the work required to run this journal including copy editing, web design, social media, outreach, and so on. The journal is supported by The Ashland Poetry Press.
We feature work that makes us consider the world and our lives in new and unexpected ways. Art can profoundly affect and connect communities, while it helps to clarify and communicate our most important truths. Through creative expression, we envision and work towards a better world.
The Black Fork River, a local familiarity to many in Ashland, Ohio, winds its way through Richland and Ashland counties, the traditional lands of the Lanape, Mohican, Wyandot, Erie, and Seneca people. The river has long been a staple for the area’s ecosystem as it joins with Clear Fork River to form the well-known and beloved Mohican River in Ashland County. Its natural beauty and longevity served as inspiration for the title of The Black Fork Review.
