BLESSED IS THE FRUIT

Pastel charts in baby books
show proportions:
He was the size of a lemon
when he died.
Lemons. They fit so snugly in the palm,
cool and with a gentle give,
yellow skin so cheerful, dimpled.
Sliced and squeezed, pulp
sticks to fingers—
tart.
